Stage set for Nyerere Open

Ten volleyball teams from Kenya and hosts Tanzania are expected to compete in the Nyerere International Open Volleyball Tournament which starts today at the Mkwakwani Indoor Stadium in Tanga.

The Tanzania Volleyball Association (Tava) Chairman, Augustine Agapa, said yesterday that three teams from Kenya and seven local teams had arrived in Tanga ready to compete in the annual event.

He named the teams from Kenya as Jacaranda, Indian Ocean Hotel and Nairobi City Council while some of the local teams are 37 KJ, Eckenforde Teacher`s College, Popatlal, Prisons and Jeshi Stars.

Agapa said this year?s tournament would be used to select two best teams which will compete in the African Volleyball Cup qualifiers in Rwanda in December.

The event aims at commemorating the death of the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.
