
Cecafa Secretary-General Nicholas Musonye
The Secretariat of the Confederation of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) will meet on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam to draw fixtures for the Senior Challenge Cup.
The regional tourney will be held in Dar es Salaam from December 8-22.
Cecafa Secretary-General Nicholas Musonye said yesterday by telephone from Nairobi, that the Dar es Salaam meeting would also appoint referees.
"We will also name assistant referees and match commissioners," he added.
He said first priority would go to referees who had Fifa badges.
Musonye said all 11 member countries had already confirmed their participation.
He said he would on that day make a briefing on Cecafa general elections which will be held on December 7.
The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) president, Leodegar Tenga, Kamal Shadad (Sudan) and Ashebir Giorgis (Ethiopia) will vie for Cecafa chairmanship during the Council?s General Assembly in Dar e Salaam.
Seven candidates have applied for four executive committee member places.
They are Madam Lydia Nsekera from Burundi, Justus Mugisha (Uganda), Abdigani Saeed (Somalia), Fadoul Huseein (Djibouti), Ali Ferej (Zanzibar), Mohamed Hatimy (Kenya) and Tesfaye Gebreyesus (Eritrea).
The council?s out-going executive was elected in 2003 in Zanzibar and their mandate expires this month.
The out-going chairman Denis Obua of Uganda will not seek the second term.
Obua, who served as Fufa chairman for six years, will be handing over Cecafa after four years of lively competitions, stability and progression.
During his era, the body secured sponsorship for all its competitions and spearheaded an all inclusive-participation from all the member countries.
The Cecafa statutes have been amended and the next executive committee will be composed of chairman, one vice chairman, three executive committee members and the General Secretary.
Cecafa member countries are Tanzania mainland, Kenya, Uganda, Zanzibar, Somalia, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Burundi, Sudan and Djibouti.
