Tanzania will send four boxers only in the World Amateur Boxing Championships to be held in Chicago from October 20 to November 3.
Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) Secretary-General Gaston Mlay said yesterday that the boxers would leave for Chicago tomorrow.
He said that the names of the boxers who would make the trip would be known today afternoon.
Mlay said the boxers would be picked from 13 boxers who had been training at the JKT Mgulani in Dar es Salaam under coaches Benjamin Mwangata and Nasoro Michael.
The boxers are Ally Kimwaga, Emillian Patrick, Petro Mtagwa, Joseph Martine, Muhsin Mohamed, Hashim Simon, Rajabu Omary Mohamed Rashid, Mrisho Adam, Leonard Machichi, Lusajo Mwaipopo (light) and Amos Godwin.
Mlay, who will be the head of the contingent, said that BFT lacked the financial support and that was why it would send only four boxers instead of nine as earlier planned.
The Chicago championships will be used as Olympic qualifiers.
The event will attract more than 1,000 boxers from 102 countries, 35 among them from Africa.
