SBL to extend Stars sponsorship

Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) has revealed that they will extend its national soccer team (Taifa Stars) sponsorship because of the 2010 World Cup preparations to be held in South Africa.

Their three-year sponsorship contract with the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) was earlier set to end in 2009.

SBL Board of Directors Chairperson Judge Mark Bomani told the Parliamentary Committee for Investment and Trade members who visited the firm`s plant in Temeke District on Tuesday that his firm was looking forward to have a long term sponsorship with the Taifa Stars.

`We are ready to extend our sponsorship to the team because they did a good job during the African Cup of Nations qualifying match although they did not make it to the finals to be held in Ghana next year,` he added.

`We want to improve our soccer internationally through our sponsorship,` he said.

He said SBL is sponsoring the team to the tune of 700m/- per year and was looking forward to improve the sponsorship in the next deal.

On his part, Parliamentary Committee for Investment and Trade Vice Chairman Harrison Mwakyembe commended SBL for sponsoring the team.

SBL is also sponsoring Toto Africans of Mwanza in the ongoing Vodacom Premier League.
