The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has nominated its president Leodegar Tenga to vie for the Confederation of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) presidential post.
TFF First Vice President Crescentius Magori said yesterday that Tanzania has nominated Tenga to vie for the post.
He said yesterday was the deadline to submit the names of the candidates who would contest for Cecafa general elections set for December 7 in Dar es Salaam.
He said most of the Cecafa member countries promised to back Tenga.
Magori said TFF had also nominated other people to contest for the working committees without mentioning their names.
Incumbent president Denis Obua`s term expires at the general assembly. Obua cannot run again since he is no longer in-charge of Uganda`s game.
Cecafa Secretary-General Nicholas Musonye is already assured of another four years as his post is by appointment.
Only presidential post will be contested for with the elected person appointing his vice among four executive committee members elected by congress.
Magori said that all Cecafa member countries had already confirmed to compete in the Cecafa`s Senior Challenge Cup to be held in Dar es Salaam from December 8-22.
They are Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Burundi, Rwanda, Zanzibar, Somalia and hosts Tanzania Mainland.
None of the Cecafa member countries will be invited in this year`s championships.
Brazilian Marcio Maximo will train the mainland team which will be named today.
