Saunders secures Beijing ticket
Durham light-welterweight Bradley Saunders has become the second English fighter to book his place at next year's Olympic Games.
Saunders scored a 24-12 points victory over the highly rated American Javier Molina at the AIBA World Boxing Championships in Chicago.
The win clinched Saunders a place in the quarter-finals and an automatic ticket to Beijing.
There he will join Joe Murray, who qualified in the bantamweight division.
Great Britain now already have one more qualifier than in 2004, when Amir Kahn claimed a silver medal in Athens.
"I wasn't expecting to win the first round in America," said Saunders. "After that, I just waited and caught him when he attacked. I wasn't going to come to him."
Scotland's Stephen Simmons and Irish duo John Sweeney and Darren Sutherland were defeated but all three could still qualify for the Olympics.
