A Hussein Sued equaliser saved Yanga from facing a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Mtibwa Sugar when they met in a Vodacom Premier League match at Morogoro`s Jamhuri Stadium yesterday.
Sued used a Mrisho Ngasa`s cross to beat goalie Soud Slim in the 49th minute.
Retired national team defender Mecky Mexime used only four minutes to register the goal for Mtibwa Sugar. He used a Monja Liseki cross to beat custodian Ivo Mapunda.
Referee Peter Mgaya of Tanga disallowed a Ben Mwalala`s goal in the 10th minute on the ground that the scorer was offside, a move which made Yanga fans invade the pitch and beat linesmen John Kanyenye.
This is the first draw for third-placed Yanga who have 10 points out of seven games. Mtibwa Sugar have reached eight points.
In Mbeya, hosts league leaders pipped Toto Africans of Mwanza 1-0 to extend their lead in the 14-team league standings.
