Olofinjana confident of promotion

Although he has not yet had a taste of English Premier League football, Seyi Olofinjana is sure that he will get to play in what is one of the world's most glamorous leagues.

The Nigerian is confident that Wolverhampton Wanderers will win promotion this season.

The 27-year-old midfielder was Wolves' top-scorer last season and recently extended his contract with the club to 2011.

Olofinjana helped his side reach the play-offs for the Premier League last season and they are currently just outside the play-off places.

"I fancy us a great deal [for promotion]. Nobody gave us a chance at start of last season," he told tznews Sport.

"Fourteen senior players had left the club, so it was an immense effort from the players and the coach.

"A lot of teams didn't give us respect last season and we caught them napping, but this season they all want to beat Wolves, and it makes every game difficult."

Wolves were relegated in 2004 after spending just one season in the top-flight, and Olofinjana then joined the club.

As a regular member of the Super Eagles, many fans expect Olofinjana to be playing at a higher level, but he has no regrets at staying with Wolves.

"I know what I'm losing as a result, but having said that, it's a joy to play for a club as big as Wolves," he said.

"If you look at their history you can see they're a very big club."

The Championship is fiercely competitive, but under coach Mick McCarthy, Wolves' chances of at least reaching the play-offs are strong.

"We're one of the favourites to go up," is Olofinjana's verdict.
