Seventeen countries will send their handball teams in Dar es Salaam to compete in the inaugural Nyerere Cup International Open Championship set for October 25-30.
The Tanzania Handball Association (Taha) General Secretary, Sudi Omary, said yesterday that the event would be used to commemorate the death of the Father of the Nation, the late Mwalimu Nyerere.
Omary named some of the countries which will send their teams as South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Commoro, Seychelles, Kenya , Uganda, Burundi, Egypt, Somalia, Djibouti, Congo DRC, Eritrea, Zanzibar and Madagascar.
He said the tourney will be staged every year.
