Migiro showers praise on Tanzania

The United Nations Deputy Secretary General, Dr Asha-Rose Migiro

The United Nations Deputy Secretary General, Dr Asha-Rose Migiro, has commended Tanzania for facilitating peace initiatives and harbouring thousands of refugees from Burundi and the Great Lakes Region.

Speaking to Tanzania`s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Ambassador Seif Iddi, who paid her a courtesy call, Dr Migiro said the UN greatly valued Tanzania`s contribution and that of other parties to the Burundi peace process.

She said the UN Secretary General was pleased to note that Tanzania had stood firm against the Burundi PALIPEHUTU-FNL`s proposal to reject the South African mediator in the Burundi peace talks, saying the rebel group had no such mandate.
