CCM National executive committee meets in Dar

The National Executive Committee of the ruling Chama cha Mapinduzi met in Dar es Salaam yesterday in a closed door meeting under party Chairman President Jakaya Kikwete.

A source said the main agenda was preparations for the party`s general congress scheduled for November 3 and 4 this year in Dodoma. The NEC also discussed the issue of corruption at the just ended party elections.

Several CCM leaders were arrested by the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau for allegedly bribing voters, among them Elisa Mollel, the legislator for Arumeru West and Lekule Laizer, the MP for Longido. The MPs are now facing court charges.

Earlier. the CCM central committee held a two-day meeting which ended on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam.

The source said the November congress was important as it would highlight the party`s position on corruption allegations leveled against some of its key members.

The opposition is accusing some top government officials of being involved in grand corruption practices.

The source said the allegations would be discussed at length during the national congress.
