Intellectuals Gala attracts 12 colleges

Twelve high learning institutions have confirmed their participation in the inaugural bonanza for higher learning institutions to be held on Saturday at the University of Dar es Salaam sports grounds.

Co-ordinator of the event Mawazo Waziri named them as Ardhi University, Institute of Journalism and Mass Communication (IJMC) and Muhimbili University College and Allied Sciences.

Others are College of Engineering and Technology (COET), College of Business Education (CBE), Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA), the Institute of Social Work and Institute of Finance Management (IFM).

Companies which have come forward to sponsor the event are NMB through students� accounts, Alphatel, Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) through Ndovu Lager, Macmillian Aidan and Ultimate Security.

Fourteen institutions are expected to take part in the one day sports and entertainment event christened Intellectuals Gala 2007.

Tumaini University and Dar es Salaam University College for Education are yet to confirm.

Over 70,000 students are expected to participate at the event of its nature which has never taken place in Tanzania before. The event will start at 9am and end at 6:30pm.

The colleges will compete in seven-a-side soccer, tug-of-war, 50-metre flat race, 50-metre sack race, singing and dancing.

Various lucrative prizes ranging from cash prizes to T-shirts, caps and key holders will be awarded to the winning teams and individuals.

A number of top entertainments have been lined up to colour the event aimed at welcoming back continuing as well as fresh students.

The event is organized by Capital Promoters International (CPI).
