Yashin earns more than respect
Russia hero Lev Yashin
To help mark UEFA's Jubilee, each national association was asked to nominate its most outstanding player of the past 50 years. In the latest of a series of articles looking at the Golden Player selected by the nations who have qualified for UEFA EURO 2008™, uefa.com remembers the career of Russia's Lev Yashin.
Lev Yashin's childhood ended in 1941 when the Second World War started. Sent to work in a military factory in Moscow where he played for its football team, he was spotted and invited to join the FC Dinamo Moskva youth side.
