THE new 60,000-seat capacity stadium in Dar es Salaam will be completed by April next year, the Minister for Information, Culture and Sports, Muhammed Seif Khatib, announced yesterday.
Therefore, the minister said, it won't be available to host next month's Challenge Cup matches as requested by the TFF and the Cecafa.
"Construction work resumes tomorrow (today) and it will take up to six months in case no disruptions occur," he said, adding that the contractors should be allowed to continue undisrupted so as to finish on time.
"We're very conscious of our people's interests and we are aware they want the Stadium to be opened to host the CECAFA matches, but we must wait until the work is completed," he added.
The remaining work includes the cushioning of the running track with tartan, the erection of a perimeter fence and the repairing of power system as well as installing ticket-reader Tanstiles-instruments. Khatib said the government will also be searching for a firm to manage the stadium.
