Vodacom donates 15 million/- phones to police


Vodacom Tanzania Ltd yesterday donated air time and mobile phones to the police force worth 15m/- in an effort to scale-down the increasing number of crimes including robberies.

Speaking to journalists yesterday in Dar es Salaam, the Head of Vodacom Foundation, Rachel Phares said: "This donation will help police officers to easily communicate with community and immediately arrest the situation."


She said: "This will help the police to get information more easily and reduce crime in the society."

She added: "Vodacom feels grateful to take charge in ensuring that peace and tranquility prevail in the country.
So these air time and mobile phones will render police officers to be at the forefront in cracking down crime which seems to take root in the community."

"Vodacom Foundation received a request from the police force asking for assistance in the on going campaign against robbery and other related crimes in the community.

As part of the firm`s corporate social responsibility, we found that this is the right time to support the force improve its service to the public," she noted.

Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Wolfgang Gumbu urged Tanzanians to provide proper cooperation with the police by giving and revealing out information that would enable them work comfortably and reduce crime to zero level.

Gumbu said: "The war against robbery will continue until we realise that it has come to zero level. This will help therefore to improve people`s lives as they will be doing their activities out of fear."

According to Gumbu, community policing was one of the strategies that police had to be proud off though more efforts were still needed to make it perform better for public interests.
