JK Nyerere Airport workers are warned against double standards in inspection duty

Workers at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam have been warned to refrain from double standards when inspecting passengers.

The warning was given yesterday by the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Omar Chambo during the opening ceremony of the Civil Aviation week yesterday in Dar es Salaam.

Workers must inspect all passengers indiscriminately. This will help to curb robberies or terrorists in the airplanes.

Looking at the colour of a passenger while inspecting airplanes will lead to dangerous people getting in and hence spoil the travel scheduled or activities.

There are some items that are not allowed inside the plane. Overlooking will lead to such things getting in, he said.

He said most people hate being inspected at the airport thinking that it is humiliation, adding that was not the case but rather for their own safety.

Travellers should also be cooperative when being inspected. They should not insist in carrying items that are prohibited, he insisted.

Chambo urged owners of different airplanes companies to cooperate with the Tanzania Aviation Authority in making sure that the inspection is done well to travellers at the airport.

The inspection at the airport should be done well. Incase of any danger workers are the first ones to be at risk, he concluded.
