Asante Kotoko move to second in the Ghanaian league

Liberty crushed King Faisal 4-0 at home to take the lead on goal difference in the opening day of the new season.


Asante Kotoko are second after they beat Gamba All Blacks 3-0.

It was a relatively good start for two of the newly promoted sides.

Newcomers All Stars Drew 0-0 with Berekum Arsenal and Kessben FC beat Sekondi Hasaacas 2-0 while Zaytuna lost 2-1 to Real Tamale United.

Heart of Lions and Tema Youth are the other sides with three points.

Morocco
In the top of the table encounter FAR Rabat are three points clear after a slender 1-0 win over second-placed Ittihad Khemisset.

Jaouad Akeddar scored the lone goal.

League holders Olympic Khouribga also triumphed 1-0 over bottom side Olympic Safi.

And Raja Casablanca continue to struggle - they were beaten 1-0 by KAC Kenitra, while their city arch-rivals Wydad drew 0-0 with Moghreb Tetouan.

Tunisa
Etoile du Sahel's lead is still intact despite being away from league action at the weekend to play in the Club World Championship in Japan.

The African champions were scheduled to play GS Gafsa.

With a game in hand Etoile are now one point ahead of Club Africain who are now on 22 points thanks to their 2-0 win over AS Marsa.

The Confederation Cup champions Club Sfaxien were beaten 2-1 at Stade Tunisien and the top Tunis side Esperance also lost by the same score at home against Club Bizertin.

Egypt
The gap is quite tight at the top of the standings with Gaish leading Petrojet by one point after 11 games played.

Zamalek who have played 12 matches are five points behind on 21.

Zamalek's arch-rivals Al Ahly are in third position with 24 points with two games in hand.

Petrojet lost the chance to go top after losing 3-0 to Mahala, while Gaish defeated Ittihad 2-1.

The game of the weekend was the seven-goal thriller between league champions Ahly and Enppi.

Angolan Flavio Amado scored the winner in added time as Ahly won 4-3.

Four of the goals in the game were scored in the last 20 minutes.

South Africa
Ajax Cape Town have a six point lead after drawing 1-1 with Platinum Stars.

Free State Stars moved to joint second on 18 points after a narrow 1-0 win over SuperSport United.

Bloemfontein Celtic, also tied in second position, failed to go clear after drawing 1-1 with Santos.
