Yanga beat Prisons to revive title hopes

Yanga hit Prisons 2-1 in a Vodacom Premier League match played at the Sokoine Stadium here yesterday. The Dar es Salaam-based side becomes the first team to defeat Prisons at their home ground since the 14-team league kicked off.

They are also the second team to beat Prisons who are still leading the league with 24 points despite yesterday?s loss. They were also beaten 1-0 in their away match staged at Kaitaba Stadium against hosts Kagera Sugar.

It only took 38 minutes for Morris Sunguti to score the first goal for Yanga in yesterday`s game when the Kenyan striker used a Fred Mbuna`s cross to thwart goalie Frank Mutego before Mrisho Ngasa added the second in the 73rd.

Ngasa, who was introduced in the 46th minute for Waziri Mahadhi, beat defender Sylvester Kamtande before his shot went past Prisons` custodian Frank Mutego.

Defender Stephano Masika scored the lone goal for the home team in the 85th minute through a long range kick from the midfield.

Earlier, Yanga missed a number of scoring chances through Aime Lukunku in the fourth minute and Gaudance Mwaikimba who failed to convert an Abdul Mtiro?s corner kick in the 15th minute.

Yonah Ndabila wasted Prisons` chance in the eighth
minute when his shot went wide after going past Yanga defence.
