
The UK government has donated various equipment to the police force worth 40m/- to support it in investigation activities at Tanzania`s boarder points.
The British government has also offered a three-week training course to police officers dealing with investigation issues from 11 regions that border nine neighbouring countries.
The equipment include 11 laptops, 11 printers, 11 digital camera and a number of paper rims. They were handed over by the British High Commissioner, Philip Parham in a presentation ceremony held in Dar es Salaam on Friday.
Ambassador Parham said the donation was from the Metropolitan Police in Britain.
He said his government recognized the work done by the local police in maintaining security to members of the public and their property. He promised to give the force more support in future.
`We believe that the support we have given together with the training will improve the performance of the police in fighting crimes in various regions in the country,` he said.
Speaking during the ceremony Senior Assistant Commissioner, Crime Investigation Department John Kimario said the equipment would help much in collecting crime information.
He said they would be distributed to police stations located at the border points in Mbeya, Kilimanjaro, Mwanza, Kigoma, Ruvuma, Tanga, Kagera, Mara, Rukwa and Mtwara.
Kimario also mentioned other regions which benefited with such kind of support previously as Arusha, Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam.
More that 30 police officers from 11 regions benefited from the training conducted by experts in investigation issues from Metropolitan police in UK, Bob Ingram and Simon Burton.
