A TRADITIONAL dance group for Dar es Salaam teachers perform during Teachers’ Day marked yesterday in Dar es Salaam.

TEACHERS in Country through Association of Teachers in Tanzania have asked the Government to increase their and promote grades of their salaries so that they can survive in hardship conditions facing them currently.

The remarks were made yesterday by Secretary of Teachers Association in Tanzania George Parapara, during the regional teachers day, whereby he asked government to solve their problems since it hinder their development.

Parapara added that 3,834 teachers in Dar Es Salaam region were promoted but still they haven’t yet get their money for holidays, transfers, education and health matters that is about 1.9 Bn/-.

He also asked the Government to construct them houses for lather than basing on construction of schools, because 70 houses that they have set up for the teachers are not enough.

He added that following HIV and Aids harmonization Campaign number of teachers who died from that diseases has decreased whereby 261 teachers have died in 2004 to 2007 .
Meanwhile Minister for Education and Vocational training Margaret Sitta added that the Government will continue recognizes teachers contribution by solving their economical and social problems.

She added that the government has set aside 1.1bn/- for training them on different techniques that will boost up percentage of children to pass their national examination.

Teachers day is celebrated every October 5 whereby 29 Million teachers Worldwide and 338 Teachers Associations from 166 in their respective Countries.
