A total of 135 goals have been scored from the 84 matches played in the first round of the Mainland Premier League so far, an average of 1.6 goals per match.
It is not exactly the rainy season of goals, especially with the highest score so far being of the match between Prisons and Pan African on September 23, in which Prisons scored 4 goals against Pan`s 2 while 37 matches have ended in draws.
The team boasting the highest number of goals is Prisons of Mbeya with 20 goals.
It is also leading the league table having garnered 24 points so far and is assured of occupying the top slot for the rest of the first round.
But several draws and the humiliating defeat of 2-1 it suffered at the hands of Young Africans, has cast the prisons team as weak despite being at the top of the league table.
Kagera Sugar, Mtibwa Sugar and Yanga teams will have to shelve their plans to topple Prisons from the top of the league table until the second round, in which they will also have to improve their score capacity.
Each of the 14 teams taking part in the league remain with one match to finish the first round.
Statistics gathered by The Guardian on Sunday indicate that of the 135 goals, 17 were through penalties.
JKT Ruvu was leading in being awarded many penalties in the league and was successful in winning four.
The statistics further show that all the 135 goals were scored by 76 players out of the 412 who have been registered by the 14 teams taking part.
As the going gets tough, Manyema team is the only one which until now has yet to win a single match and is leading among the teams that have drawn.
It has drawn in nine matches. On the side of scorers, Mbeya Prisons player, Oswald Morris leads by having scored six goals.
Close to him are Philipo Alando of Toto Africa and Michel Katende of Kagera Sugar who have five goals.
Players with four goals each include Yona Ndabila and Said Mtupa of Mbeya Prisons, Rashid Roshwa of Pan African and Nicolaus Kabipe of Morogoro Police and Vicent Barnabas of Kagera Sugar.
Those with three goals each include Moses Odhiambo of Simba, Kessy Mapande and Greyson Haule of Ruvu JKT, Mecky Maxime of Mtibwa Sugar, Mgaza Mhina of police Dodoma, Mourice Sunguti of Yanga and Stephano Mwasika of Prisons.
