
The Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Dr Mary Nagu will officiate at the Legal Aid Day scheduled to take place tomorrow.
Talking to reporters in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, the President of the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS), Jacqueline De Mello said the governing council had decided that the society'niambie
s Legal Aid Day be an annual event every second week of November.
The event would be conducted in Dar es Salaam and in all other TSL chapters including Kilimanjaro, Mwanza, Arusha, Dodoma and Tabora.
It would be graced by the presence of the Chief Justice, Augustine Ramadhani, Attorney General Johnson Mwanyika, Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Abbas Kandoro, development partners, members of the diplomatic corp and civil society organizations, she said.
De Mello said the event was an initiative taken as part of the overall strategy to make the society more visible and relevant to Tanzanians in efforts to discharge one of its principle functions - attainment of justice for all.
"The law establishing the society is also cognisant of this fact and we as lawyers have this noble duty to adhere to," he said.
De Mello strongly urged the general public and especially all those marginalised and vulnerable groups in need of legal advice to take advantage of the opportunity which was free of charge, and attend in large numbers.
She said that services to be rendered would include probate and administration, inheritance, land matters, labour disputes and those living with Aids.
