Farah withdraws from Euro defence

Farah made the 5,000m final at the track Worlds in August

Britain's Mo Farah will not defend his European Cross Country title in Spain on 9 December as he continues his recovery from a groin injury.

Farah, 24, has also withdrawn from the GB team competing in the Chiba Ekiden Relays in Japan on Friday.

He said: "I'm disappointed, but 2008 is a key year and my preparations for the Olympics have to take priority.

"I'm going in the right direction, but it's important I don't jeopardise that by rushing this recovery process."

Somalia-born Farah plans to spend January in South Africa at the first training Team GB camp of the year.
