Dar golfers shine in Mombasa

THE Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club golf team for the first time beat their counterparts Nyali Golf & Country Club on their home course to win the trophy for the third time.

Gymkhana team under captain Dioniz Malinzi overwhelmed the home side after collecting a total of 40 points in the games played yesterday. They won 20 matches out of 35.

The Dar team with 64 golfers arrived here on Saturday and played the Monthly Mug on the same day before entering in the main game yesterday.

The host team managed only 30 points, 10 behind the winners who have been accompanied by Kenyan senior professional golfer and Dar Gymkhana coach Charles Farrar.

The win was a big joy and motivation to Malinzi who promised to turn with a big number of ladies and junior golfers next year.

Nyali Chairman Tonny Mbote thanked Malinzi for the efforts to promote the game around East Africa.

“I’ve seen a number of good young golfers in Dar es Salaam, and we really appreciate your efforts to promote the game not only in Tanzania, but also in East Africa,” he said.

In the Monthly Mug that was played on Saturday the Dar es Salaam University Lecturer, Professor Mohabe Nyirabu, took the guest awards with a remarkable score of three under par net 68, while national team player Sebastian Mtupili took the gross awards with three over par 74.
