Vodacom injects 36 million/- into Cycle Challenge

Vodacom Tanzania will use 36m/- to sponsor the Cycle Challenge which will be staged on October 21 in Mwanza. Ephraim Mafuru, Vodacom Head of Communication and Sponsorships, yesterday said: ``We have decided to sponsor the championship after realising that there are many youths who want to participate fully in cycling but lack support.`` Mafuru said winners in each category (men and women) would be awarded 1m/- while first and second runners-up would be awarded 750,000/- and 500,000/- respectively. He said those who would finish from 4-10 will receive 300,000/- each. Contestants from 11-20 will be awarded 100,000/- each. Those who will finish 21-30 will be awarded 50,000/ each. ``Our aim is to see that cycling becomes a huge sport in the country and if possible, Tanzanians to be able to compete in top world cycle races and Olympics,`` Mafuru added. On his side, the Chairman of Cycling Association, Nizar Manji, thanked Vodacom for the support and called upon other firms to follow their footsteps. ``I am so happy that this is the second time Vodacom is sponsoring us. This support means a lot to us,`` he added. Vodacom sponsored the event in 2005.
