Merreikh lose but seal final spot

El Merreikh of Sudan will play Tunisia's CS Sfaxien in the final

Sudan's El Merreikh lost 3-0 in Nigeria to Dolphins but still qualified for the final of the Confederation Cup as winners of Group B.

The Sudanese side finished level on points with Dolphins at the top of the group but advance thanks to their superior head-to-head record.

Dolphins, needing a 5-0 win to advance, scored in the 11th minute as Merreikh's Togolese defender Jean-Paul Abalo put the ball past his own goal goalkeeper.

Onwuzuoke Wobo then doubled the lead for the hosts in the 33rd minute from the penalty spot.

The win was completed in the 64th minute thanks to another penalty this time scored by Thankgod Amaefule.

Merreikh will now play CS Sfaxien of Tunisia in the final, with the first leg to be played on the weekend of 2-4 November with the second leg two weeks later.

Ismaili of Egypt ran out 1-0 winners against Nigerian club Kwara United in the remaining Group B fixture.

Both teams had already failed to qualify for the semi-finals but it means Ismaili finished third in the group two points adrift of Merreikh and Dolphin
