Harmison has not played competitively since August
England seamer Steve Harmison will play two games for a South African domestic team next month to boost his fitness ahead of the Sri Lanka Test series.
The 28-year-old has not played for his country since hernia surgery after the final Test with West Indies in June.
England bowling coach Ottis Gibson will travel with Harmison, who will turn out for Highveld Lions.
It suggests he will be named in the Test squad on Friday, though an England spokesman refused to confirm that.
Harmison has not played any competitive cricket since suffering a side injury against Surrey in August but will play in two four-day games for the Johannesburg-based team.
England arrive in Sri Lanka on 15 November and will play two three-day warm-up games before the first Test starts in Kandy on 1 December.
One man who will not be in the touring party is Harmison's fellow Durham paceman Liam Plunkett.
The 22-year-old, who has not featured for England siince a one-dayer against the Windies in July, has agreed a four-month contract with another South African team, the Durban-based Nashua Dolphins.
Durham skipper Dale Benkenstein, who plays for the Dolphins, helped arrange the deal.
That move and Harmison's short stint, have been approved by Cricket South Africa.
