DRC insist coach owed nothing

Henri Depireux insists he is still owed money for coaching the DR Congo

The DR Congo's sports minister Pardonne Kaliba has insisted that suspended national team coach Henri Depireux has been paid in full.

Depireux was suspended by Kaliba after the coach failed to supply a match report on the DR Congo's 1-1 draw with Libya before leaving for his native Belgium.

The result against Libya meant the Leopards failed to qualify for the 2008 African Cup of Nations finals in Ghana.

The coach hit back by saying that he would be going to football's world governing body Fifa in a bid to recoup salary arrears.

Addressing parliament Kaliba said: "Mr Depireux has already perceived 144,250 Euros (nearly US$205,000) which is equivalent to sixteen months pay for the fifteen months he has served as coach of our national team.

"The Coach is making a lot of noises through the media that we still owe him his salary arrears while the treasury has gone so far by paying him an extra month that he hasn't worked for yet."

However Depireux is adamant that he is still owed money.

"I think the Minister should wait and prove that [the money has been paid to me] to Fifa, where my case of complaint has been taken," he told BBC Sport.

"He has suspended me for not handing in the match report for our game with Lybia but there is no clause in my contract that states that I must hand them post-match report.

"Apart from my salary arrears I was supposed to be given a house and a car so that I could settle in Kinshasa, but none of that was implemented."
