The Executive Director of Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation, Joseph Butiku, has challenged the former President Benjamin Mkapa to come out before the public and clear all corruption allegations leveled against him.
Talking to journalists in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Butiku said coming out in the open would help those talking about him to stop shouting.
`I personally don`t believe that Mkapa conducted business during his reign at the State House. However I believe it would be noble of him to come out and clear the air,`said Butiku.
He added that, as a good citizen of Tanzania, he would not hesitate to speak the truth.
`Tanzanians should stop being cowards. They should speak the truth and maintain transparency instead of gossiping,` said Butiku. He said corruption had been getting stronger since independence.
`It is rampant like the deadly HIV/Aids. Most Tanzanians has been like chicks waiting for their mamas (corrupt people) to feed them. We are like chicks that open their mouths waiting for corrupt people to feed us, and the one with money is appointed to lead,` he said.
