Police in Shinyanga impound pistols and ammunitions


Police in Shinyanga Region recently impounded three pistols and 15 rounds of ammunition during a crackdown on criminal acts in the region.

Shinyanga Regional Police Commander, Shaibu Ibrahim, said the weapons and bullets were impounded in Sengerema Ward, Maswa District at the house of one Ngasa Joseph, who is alleged to manufacture them locally.

``In a surprise move, after the police impounded the said weapons, some unknown people set Joseph?s house on fire in the night, and reduced everything to ashes. There were no casualties as nobody was inside during the blaze,`` said Ibrahim.

The RPC said that during the police clean-up operation, thirteen other people were arrested over suspicion of taking part in different incidents of armed robbery in the region and beyond.

He said the suspects to appear in court include Jagadi Samweli (37), who was found in possession of a `Yamaha DT 125` motorcycle with registration number TZR 178 believed to have been stolen.

Others are Makeji Jinyamea (21) who was found with an assortment of government trophies; Dadu Malusa (21), Maganane Maige (25), Domisian Ngusa (30), Seme Sugilo, Embassu Semi, Ngandu Jinyamo, Shalu Luwayi, Weka Jifula, Jinyamo Jilolelo and Chacha Manghpnal.

At the same time, six people were arrested over possession of 140 litres of illicit brew (gongo), inputs, equipment and bits and pieces used in brewing.

The police chief mentioned the people who would soon appear in court as Scola John (30), Mange Luduka (56), Charles Makelemo (40), Jackson Makalawe, Ester Bundala and Emmanuel Andrew.

He also called on the general public to cooperate fully with the police to help expose criminals in their neighbourhood to contain banditry and other crimes.
